Australian Council on Children and the Mediea (ACCM)

The ACCM website is a fantastic resource for parents and carers to use to monitor what chilkdren are watching and playing at home. The site has information about movies, apps and a lot of other resources that are useful in screening digital media chuldren may be watching or playing.

The reviews that the site has posted explain the ratings and themes that are in the movies, apps and games. They also give an appropriate age guide that explains what age each movie or app is suitable for.

You find all of this information at http://childrenandmedia.org.au/

Our school is continuing to work towards becoming an eSmart school, promoting respectful behaviours – both on and offline – to reduce bullying and cyberbullying.

Protecting Personal Information
Many online services require users to provide some personal information in order to use their service. Prior to providing personal information, you should think about what can be done with your personal information and assess whether you are still happy to pass on these details. In addition to inappropriate or illegal use of information, disclosing personal information online can impact your digital reputation.

Your personal information may include your:

full name

address

phone numbers

school

date of birth

email address

username and password

bank details

Unfortunately sometimes people forget to think carefully about whether or not to share their private information, including their usernames and passwords for certain websites. Here are some hints and tips for keeping your personal accounts safe with usernames and passwords:

Do

make it at least eight characters in length

combine letters, numbers and upper and lower-case letters

change your password regularly

Don’t

use pet names, birthdates, family or friends’ names

share passwords with others, even with friends

store them on the device

You can find more information about protecting your personal information online at the Australian Government eSafety website: https://www.esafety.gov.au/

Our school is continuing to work towards becoming an eSmart school, promoting respectful behaviours – both on and offline – to reduce bullying and cyberbullying.

Digital Reputation

Digital reputation is defined by the online behaviours and the content we post about ourselves and others. Tagged photos, blog posts and social networking interactions all shape how we are perceived by others online and offline, both now and in the future.

A poor digital reputation can affect friendships, relationships and even job prospects, so it is very important that we are aware of how our actions online can affect ourselves as well as others. Once information is online, it can be very difficult to remove. Posts and photos that we post can also be misinterpreted, or even shared by others without us knowing.

You can find more information about digital reputation on the Australian Government eSafety website: https://esafety.gov.au/

Foundation: Thomas Habib Year 1/2 Harrison Pentland

Year 1/2 (last week) Lara Parker Coe Year 5/6 No winner

Year 3/4 Braedon Aponso and Sophie Coe

Maths at home over the holidays

I encourage families to be mindful of maths in every day life and to embrace all opportunities to practise maths skills over the holidays. Have fun!!

Suggestions

Board games and Card games:- practice adding on, following rules and strategic thinking. Backgammon has been popular at school lately and requires adding two dice!!

Cooking and gardening:- using lots of measuring and reading of measurements on various tools and scales.

Time: Reading analogue and digital clocks. Reading timetables and calculating elapsed time. eg how long a movie goes for or how long the train will take, etc.

If you are traveling compare time zones and look at 24 hour time.

Puzzles:- jigsaws, tangrams, Sudoku

Money:- adding up money, calculating change and % discounts. If you are going overseas compare foreign currency and work out exchange rates and money equivalence in both currencies.
